About 50 percent of the African population lives in the slums where there is bad sanitation and poor living conditions. It is probably the most overly exploited continents in the world and still suffer due to poverty and lack of infrastructure and natural resources. Though because of poverty, women are contributing a major role in the socio-economic development in the African continent. I have read here http://www.mission-humanitaire-afrique.org/ that women are transforming cassava into "Gari" which plays a major role in getting extra income for living a good life, it means women playing a major role in economic contribution.
